UK weather: Britain braces for 70mph winds and persistent rain – but there’s hope for Easter weekend sun

Britain is bracing for gale force winds of up to 70mph in some places this week, the Met Office has warned.

Persistent rain will accompany howling gales as the week kicks off to a dreary start.

Tomorrow, cloud will sweep in from the west and bring with it heavy showers.

‘Most of us will wake up to a pretty bright start after the unpleasant day today – but it won’t last,’ said a Met Office spokesman.

‘Tuesday stays windy. It’s slightly colder as cold air is dragged in and there will be quite a few scattered showers.

‘As it’s cold we will see some sleet and snow in the hills far north.’

Temperatures will linger around an average of 10C and winds of 70mph are forecast to smash the north of England.
